Trade Descriptions

Here’s a brief description of the 19 trades at UAW-represented Chrysler LLC loacations. Detailed descriptions are available through the Technology Training Center. For more information on these trades, contact us.

Tooling Trades

Die Cast-Die Maker:

 

Designs, builds and tests die cast dies. Jobs in this trade are available only at the Casting Plant in Kokomo, Indiana.
Die Maker: Builds, tests and repairs dies for sheet metal parts manufacturing and metal forming and trimming.
Pattern Maker: Creates casting patterns for pouring molten metals using styrofoam or wood.
Pattern Repairer-Foundry Patterns: Repairs metal foundry patterns. Jobs in this trade are only available at the Foundry in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tool Maker: Builds and repairs tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges.
Tool Maker-Jig and Fixture Builder: Builds, tests and repairs jigs and fixtures for holding sheet metal panels.
Maintenance Trades

Electrician:

 

Installs, maintains and repairs all electrical equipment, including power and lighting systems. Electricians also perform diagnostics and preventative maintenance.
Machine Repairman: Troubleshoots and repairs machinery, including tear-downs and rebuilds.
Mechanic-Automotive: Repairs car and truck engines, transmissions, fuel systems, axles and transaxles. This work also includes testing, cleaning and replacing components in electrical systems, HVAC, trim, glass, brakes, suspension systems, wheels, tires, cooling and exhaust systems.
Mechanic-Gas and Electric Jitney: Maintains gas and electric-powered jitneys, trucks, tractors, carts and self-propelled yard cranes. This work also includes tune-ups and adjusting, repairing or replacing components.
Millwright: Installs, services, moves and dismantles equipment and machinery, including conveyors, hoists and elevators.
Pipefitter-Plumber: Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment.
Sheet Metal Worker:

Builds sheet metal parts, such as ventilating systems, exhaust hoods and machine guards.

Welder Equipment Repairer:

Installs, tests and maintains all welding equipment.
Salaried Trades

Die Designer:

Designs dies used in cutting, drawing, piercing and forming sheet metal parts.
Metal Model Body Builder: Builds full-scale automobile parts, bodies and fixtures.
Plastic Model Maker: Creates plastic duplications of parts made by wood model makers and plaster molds for the foundry and prototype parts. 
Tool Designer: Designs tools, machinery and special equipment for product machining and assembly.
Wood Model Maker: Builds models, patterns, fixtures and forms for prototype and production tooling and parts.
