Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for UAW-represented
Chrysler employees has been suspended due to severe financial
constraints faced by the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center.
The decision to suspend TAP benefits for
active and laid-off employees is effective Oct. 28, 2008.
All applications for tuition assistance received after that
date will be denied – regardless
of when a class starts. Applications for classes in 2009
will be denied even if they were submitted prior to Oct.
28, 2008.
NOTICE
The
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for UAW-represented
Chrysler LLC employees has been suspended.
All applications
received after Oct. 28, 2008, will be denied. |
The decision affecting TAP was made by the UAW-Chrysler
Joint Activities Board, which oversees NTC programs and has
a fiduciary responsibility to preserve the NTC’s financial
stability.
The suspension of benefits for active and laid-off Chrysler
employees follows a decision in June to temporarily suspend
the Scholarship Program for Dependent Children and Retiree
Tuition Assistance Program.
The Joint Activities Board will review NTC revenues and
program spending on a quarterly basis to determine if funding
levels are sufficient to consider TAP benefits for reinstatement.
If or when TAP benefits are reinstated employees
will be notified by their LEPCs
and training facilitators at their locations.

TAP benefits and its impact, click the Q&A

regarding the decision, as well as a copy of the NTC Co-Directors'
letter to Local Employee Participation Council (LEPC) co-chairs
at all UAW-represented Chrysler facilities, can also be accessed

Effective Dec. 22, 2008,
the TAP office toll-free number will be disconnected. All employee calls concerning
tuition assistance should go to Patrick
Byers or Colleen
McBrady at the NTC, 313.567.3300.
If you represent a school, queries about invoices,
